Christian ROUX (Fellow, IEEE, AIMBE, IAMBE) alumnus of the Ecole Normale Superieure, Cachan, France received the agregation degree in physics in 1978, the Ph.D. from the Institut National Polytechnique, Grenoble, France, in 1980 and the HDR from University of Rennes 1 in 1990.
He joined the Institut TELECOM – TELECOM Bretagne in 1982 as an Associate Professor and then as a Professor from 1987 onwards. Professor ROUX founded the Image and Information Processing department in 1994 and headed it till 2001. He has been a visiting professor with the Medical Image Processing Group, Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania (1992-1993), and a Distinguished International Research Fellow with the department of Electrical Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada, in 1996 and 2003. Prof. ROUX is the founding director of the Laboratoire de Traitement de l’Information Médicale, INSERM U650 (http://latim.univ-brest.fr).
His research interests concern advanced medical information processing, and spatial and functional information modeling and analysis in medical imaging, with applications in various medical domains including orthopedics, gastroenterology, oncology, ophthalmology and cardiology. He has published around 150 papers, four book chapters, has edited two books, and holds nine patents.
Prof. ROUX is the founding co-chair of the IEEE EMBS International Summer School on Biomedical Imaging held on a regular basis since 1994 in Brittany, France which has become a worldwide reference. He has been an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging (1993-2000), and is member of the Editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Information Technology and of the Proceedings of the IEEE. He was President of the IEEE EMB Society (2000-2002).
Christian ROUX was appointed senior advisor with the Direction of Technology, French Ministry of Research in charge of the Health technology area (2004-2005) and Program officer with the National Research Agency, Paris, France (2006-2008) in charge of the TecSan, AAL and EmergenceTEC programs.
In 2009 Prof. ROUX became Dean for Research with TELECOM Bretagne.
